Gänswein avoids answering question about the traditional Latin Mass. During an October 17 interview on Twitch.tv, Archbishop Georg Gänswein was asked whether the more liberal German Church could learn from growing interest in Catholicism among young people in France and the US. The interviewer specifically mentioned the “Mass according to old rites” as a possible reason for success there. Gänswein did not directly address the old Mass. Instead, he said young people are “searching for answers” and finding “nourishment” in the Gospel and the Church’s message. He stressed that faith is not merely “something I have intellectually in my head.” What matters, he said, is a relationship with “the person who is essential to Christianity, namely Jesus Christ.”

Catholic Priest Dies After Giant Crucifix Falls During Livestream in Ecuador Trending News Channel From Newsweek: A Catholic priest died after a large crucifix fell on top of him while he was leading a mass in Ecuador that was being livestreamed at the time. Footage shared widely on social media shows Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari addressing his congregation in Guayaquil on Saturday before the crucifix came tumbling down on top of him and striking him in the head. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil on Sunday confirmed that Father Sánchez Molinari had died in a post on social media which said: “We announce that our beloved Fr. SAINT PETER OF ALCANTARA - October 19 Priest (1499-1562) In his youth, St. Peter left his home in Alcantara, Spain, and entered a monastery of Discalced Franciscans. He was quickly promoted, but his thirst for penance was unappeased. In 1539, at 40 years old, he founded the first monastery of the Strict Observance. The friars' cells were simple and rustic. St. Peter's cell was only four and a half feet long. He often fasted and sometimes ate just once in three days. In the winter, he opened his cell's windows to feel some sensation of warmth. All of his penances were for the salvation of souls. Among those St. Peter trained to perfection was St. Teresa of Avila, a doctor of the Church. He read her soul, approved her spirit of prayer and encouraged her reforms. He passed away on October 18, 1562. He intercedes by giving our prayers to God with perfect faith. While still a youth of sixteen, he left his home at Alcantara and entered a convent of Discalced Franciscans near Valencia. He rose quickly to high posts in the Order, as a guardian, a definitor, and then Superior of the Province of Saint Gabriel. But his thirst for penance was still unappeased, and in 1539, being then forty years old, he founded the Congregation of Saint Joseph of the Strict Observance, to conserve the letter of the Rule of Saint Francis. He suffered great tribulations to conserve that Rule in its integrity. Eventually Saint Peter himself, the year before his death, raised it to the status of a province under obedience to the Minister General of the entire Seraphic Order.
