On the campus of the University of Toronto's St. Michael's College, also known as the Catholic University, homosexual symbols are displayed. These include a large banner and a rainbow crosswalk on St. Joseph Street. In a letter dated 2024, the president and vice-chancellor of St. Michael’s College wrote to a Toronto councilor that the student union had requested the rainbow crosswalk and that the administration supported the proposal. St. Michael’s College was founded in 1852 by the Congregation of St. Basil.
St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto has gone totally pride. From flying the pride flag to rainbow sidewalks to the Drag Show. "Display your pride." It's all about pride in pride. In 2024, in a letter to a Toronto city councillor the St. Michael's President David G. Sylvester writes: The St. Michael’s College Student Union (SMCSU) has requested that a Pride crosswalk with rainbow colours be painted between the John M. Kelly Library and Elmsley Place on St. Joseph Street. The University of St. Michael’s College administration and I enthusiastically support this proposal and commit to the costs associated with the project, as outlined to us, on the University’s behalf. St. Michael’s is a place that welcomes and celebrates the infinite God-given dignity of those who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. From its Inclusiveness Policy, to its Strategic Plan, to the installation of the Progress Pride Flag on the John M. Kelly Library last summer, St. Michael’s …

One of the props was a paper bus labeled “La Scaloneta,” the popular nickname for Argentina’s national football team under Lionel Scaloni. The encyclical Magnifica Humanitas is internally inconsistent in its treatment of just war theory. That writes Manfred Spieker, emeritus professor of Christian Social Sciences, on Herder.de on June 16. While he generally praises Leo XIV’s reflections on artificial intelligence, he challenges the encyclical’s call to “overcome” the traditional doctrine of just war. Magnifica Humanitas, drawing on Fratelli Tutti, offers two reasons for moving beyond just war theory: first, that nearly every war in recent decades has been presented as justified, and second, that modern weapons make war an unacceptable solution. Spieker finds neither argument convincing. Regarding the first, he writes: “If everyone who wages a war appeals to this doctrine, it remains necessary to examine who is justified in doing so and who is not.” He adds: “Those who falsely invoke this doctrine will face criticism or rejection. But that does not make the doctrine of just war obsolete.” Nor do modern weapons invalidate …अधिक

“At ninety-three years of age, I don’t have enough time to clear my name of every vile falsehood that has been hurled against me in the public square. Yet I will always have time to defend the honour of the Church founded by Jesus Christ and her Sacraments, and I shall do so until the end of my life.” Just weeks before marking the 70th anniversary of his priestly ordination on July 8, a Portuguese Priest finds himself once again defending his reputation against false sexual abuse allegations that were archived by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2023. After years of public accusations, restrictions on his ministry, relentless media vilification, and refusal to defend him by the Archdiocese of Braga, the priest has issued a public Right of Reply and announced legal action for defamation against the accusers. The case has gained renewed urgency as Grupo Vita (created by the Portuguese Episcopal Conference to respond to abuse allegations) prepares to meet Vatican officials …

#newsPfsgzpaekf
End of an Era: Jesuits Withdraw from Murcia: The Society of Jesus has closed its last remaining community in Murcia, Spain, ending its resident presence in the Diocese of Cartagena. Jesuit Provincial Fr. Enric Puiggròs said the closure is part of a "restructuring" driven by a lack of vocations and the aging of the order's members. The Jesuits' presence in Murcia goes back to the 16th century, shortly after the founding of the Society of Jesus in 1540.

Cardinal Camillo Ruini, an influential churchmen in Italy, died in Rome on the evening of June 16 at age 95. He had been hospitalized last September with kidney problems and, after an initial recovery, saw his condition worsen in recent weeks. He chose to remain at home under medical care. Born in Sassuolo, in the province of Modena, Ruini was ordained a priest in 1954. He became auxiliary bishop of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla in 1983 and secretary-general of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI) in 1986. In 1991, Pope St. John Paul II appointed him to lead the Italian Bishops' Conference, named him Vicar General of Rome, and created him a cardinal. He held the Rome vicariate until 2008 and led the bishops’ conference until 2007. He became, for nearly two decades, one of the closest collaborators of both John Paul II and later Benedict XVI.
